Merry Once More

Merry Maple last night

Some of you more sagacious types may have noticed the Merry Maple went dark soon after the unveiling last week, but as of last night it's back for the duration of the Christmas, err, holiday season.

Apparently the problem was an "amateur hour repair on the cut wires performed by the contractor in charge of stringing the lights."  According to town electrician Fred Hartwell, "The Merry Maple should now function properly for the remainder of the holiday season."

Hallelujah.

The Merry Maple. I wonder if Robert Frost had one in his living room at Christmas. I'm betting he had a Christmas tree.

Interesting. The lighting ceremony is supposed to be non- denominational. But then Santa arrives! Merry Christmas to all. And thanks to the MS chorus for all the holiday tunes.

"Angels We Have Heard On High" never sounded so sweet.

By all means, marry. If you get a good wife, you'll become happy; if you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

This tree is racist. White lights???

The town needs to respond to this white light supremacy! I call on Amherst officials to make these black lights instead! It will please Shabazz and the UMass stoners alike!

Once again, we come to the Holiday Season, a deeply religious time that each of us observes, in his own way, by going to the mall of his choice.

Happy Hanukkah. Merry Christmas. A safe and joyous Kwanza. A joyful and triumphant er...whatever I left out. To the rest of you, have a nice winter.

All wiring must pass inspection -- except that done for the town itself...

When are they putting up the Christmas tree? White House has theirs already. NYC too.

I bet a lot of us have Christmas trees in our homes. As opposed to Merry Maples. Or "holiday Trees." Don't know anyone in my 65 years that celebrates anything called "Holiday." But happy holidays are, I hope, had by all

Now I'm pissed. The holiday candelabra a.k.a. menorah has made an appearance on the common. But no Christmas tree? The town prides itself on fairness. Are we calling that thing the Merry taper holder??
